As I mentioned many times before, I’m not really a ‘tan gal’. What I mean is, I’m not a member of the Thursday Night Tanning Club. I frankly could not be bothered with the upkeep. Especially if I have no weekend plans. I’ll schlap on some Sally Hansen or Be Bold for instant tanning effects for a night out or have a professional spray tan for a special occasion the odd time, but generally overnight tan and I never seem to work out! I like the idea of a gradual tan, as any streaky mistakes tend to be subtle enough that they can be easily rectified. I’ve had some very unsuccessful results with in-shower gradual tans recently. I needed to try something else! With a recent wedding coming up, I picked up the Vita Liberata Fabulous Self Tanning Gradual Lotion which was on offer in Boots at the time. It is formulated with Marula oil, Aloe Vera and Shea Butter. It claims to hydrate, soothe and moisturise, leaving “a sun-kissed glow” which develops over 4-8 hours. It also includes Odour Remove™ technology for zero smell.
I applied 3 lots of this (using a tanning mitt) on the run up to my event. The product is an opaque liquid that applies clear on the skin. Usually gradual tan takes 2-3 days before you see a hint of a tan, but this developed very quickly and I was noticeably more tanned in a matter of hours! For that reason, I felt like it was more of an overnight/developing tan. Also, the Odour Remove™ technology was another thing that encouraged me to take this off the shelf. Unfortunately I feel like I was a bit mislead. This gradual tanning lotion smells! I can’t even say “it was just a hint”, it absolutely smells of fake tan, full stop. The smell only lasted while it was developing and didn’t linger after a shower thankfully.
I have to say, I was SO impressed with this product! The result and colour pay off was fantastic. My skin was left with a beautiful golden tan, yet subtle enough for me personally that I didn’t feel absolutely tangoed. The formula also left my skin feeling very soft and it lasted a good 5 or 6 days, it wore off very well too.
It’s on pricey side at around €21.99, so make sure to look out for offers on and stock up. It’s a 200ml tube and I found a little goes a long way with this, so I expect to get plenty of bang for my tanning buck with this! A fantastic ‘gradual’ tan that I would happily repurchase.
The Vita Liberta brand is world-renowned and offer a huge selection of tanning products to suit every need, I’d highly recommend checking out their range of products the next time you are looking to purchase a tanning product.
