A couple of months ago, I got caught up in the hype on Twitter over a beauty box collaboration between UK-based subscription box company Glossybox and the massive make up empire that is NARS.

It was all down to the marketing. There was a big announcement, there would be a limited amount available, followed by an opportunity to get your name on a waiting list to buy it on the day of release. Cue follow up emails to remind you to ‘set you alarm clock’ for 9am the next morning. You can go home now Glossybox Marketing, job done, I was sold and I had to have it! Continue reading

Anyone else have a girl crush on Blake Lively? I just love everything about that gal’s look. The glamorous gowns, the beachy waves, the pared back make up looks; her look is always on point! She’s most certainly my girl crush! Ashamed to say I’ve only ever seen one episode of Gossip Girl, I might make it my ‘thing’ to watch this autumn/winter.

Blake's Red2

I recently purchased one of the L’oreal Colour Riche lipsticks from their Exclusive Reds range. L’oreal have teamed up with a bevvy of high-flying female beauties such as Blake Lively, Julianne Moore and Eva Longoria, to come up with a range of red toned lip shades to suit all complexions. Me being obsessed with Blake Lively didn’t even bother investigating which was suited to my colouring, I just knew I wanted the shade Blake’s Pure Red. In hopes it magically transformed me into the Hollywood starlet (it didn’t by the way). It is however, very nearly THE perfect shade of red in my opinion!

Blake's Red

These lipsticks are “Enriched with velvet spheres, pure pigments and jojoba oils, lips feel more hydrated after applying”. I can’t say I found this lipstick particularly hydrating, but I did find the formula a little drying after about five hours of wear. I absolutely HATE lip products that go flakey and crumbly, there is just no point in them at all! To minimize any of that, it’s vital that lips are in tip-top condition prior to applying a bold colour lipstick. A lip exfoliator and good lip balm are your friends, particularly now that Autumn is in full swing and Winter is on the horizon.

To apply this lipstick, I first added a light layer of lip balm. I then lined my lips, applied and blotted. Applied another coat of lippy and blotted once more. One great thing about this L’oreal lipstick is that it has really excellent lasting power in that it almost leaves a stain. The BEST thing about this though, is simply the colour; the beautiful, classic rouge shade that screams ‘HOLLYWOOD GLAMOUR’.

Blake's Red1

These are priced at around €10.49 from Boots and all L’oreal stockists, with a shade to suit every skin tone. Well worth the price for the perfect shade of red for your make-up kit!

Chic Treat Club Box, October 2014

Another month has come and gone and it’s time for another Chic Treat Club box! The October Chic Treat Club is super special!

As many of you will be aware, October was Breast Cancer Awareness month (did YOU check your tata’s?). The beauties at Chic Treat Club have joined forces with beauty columnist Triona McCarthy, to bring us a box full of loveliness! The extra special part is that €2 from every Chic Treat Box sold during October, goes to the National Breast Cancer Research Institute. Triona lost her sister Tricia to breast cancer in 2009, when Tricia was just 30. Triona set up the Tricia McCarthy Memorial Scholarship, to fund a researcher every year to determine a cause for breast cancer and  improve patient treatments. An incredible thing to mark the memory of her beloved sister, I’m sure you will agree! Tricia was a very talented artist and this months Chic Treat Club box is adorned with her artwork.

Here’s how this month’s Chic Treat Club box looked! OOOOOOOOH!!! AHHHHHHH!!!

1. Yonka Invigorating Mist Toner

Oh this is just LUSH! This is the second time I’ve received this Yonka brand in a Chic Treat Club box. The last time it was a candle and a trial sized cleanser and toner, which I have used and they were lovely. This Invigorating Mist Toner is a spray bottle, so it’s a little different from using your usual toner on a cotton pad.  Enriched with five essential oils, this mist claims to refresh and soothe skin after cleansing, leaving you with a bright, beautiful face! It’s suitable for normal to oily skin, which I’m delighted to say is my skin type. It’s lovely and cooling on the skin, would have been a lovely one for the summer. It smells quite strongly of lavender, which suits me fine, I like it. Really nice product in this months box! LUXURY LOVELINESS!

Yon-Ka Invigorating Mist retails at €30.00. Visit for local stockists.

2. NYX Powder Blush

So, NYX. I’ve been dying to try this brand since it launched in Ireland earlier this year. Unfortunately the stockists are very limited, so I haven’t managed to raid a NYX stand yet! Lucky for me, I can try my first NYX product thanks to Chic Treat Club! I received this gorgeous powder blush in the shade  Summer Peach. It’s a gorgeous healthy shade of pink, with a subtle shimmer and best of all it stays put on my cheeky chops all day! The packaging is cute too and fits neatly into your make up bag. While this shade is exclusive to Chic Treat Club, their range of powder blushes are available in over 24 shades! That’s amazing! Something to suit every skin tone. Look forward to trying more NYX.

NYX Powder Blush retails at €7.49, from selected pharmacies nationwide.

3. Wet n Wild Mega Last Lipstick

Another well-known brand in this month’s box! I have a couple of bits from Wet n Wild, I blogged about their beautiful eyeshadow palettes  previously. I was happy to see this mega last lipstick in this month’s box. Who doesn’t love lippy?! This lipstick claims to be long-wearing, with a semi-matte, cream finish. It is also enriched with vitamin A and vitamin E to keep lips smooth. Nothing worse than flaky lips underneath a drying lipstick, ugh! While the formula of this lipstick is quite nice, the shade (Think Pink) is QUITE pink, bordering on a neon Barbie-esque shade! But sure, breast cancer awareness is all about pink, so let’s just go mad and THINK PINK! I’ll definitely use it and have been using it, just need to be careful to apply it sparingly.

Wet n Wild Mega Last Lipstick retails at €2.99, available from Penneys and selected Dunnes Stores nationwide.

4. Purederm Botanical Choice Exfoliating Foot Mask

I have to admit, I laughed when I saw this product. Only because it reminded me of a time when I used this product before! My sister will back me up on this, but I won’t go into it now. These exfoliating mask booties, claim to  perfectly peel away calluses and skin cells over at matter of days. Calluses. Dead Skin Cells. Hardly sexy words, but hey, most of us have feet…..! And many of those feet could rival a pig’s trotter. So we must take the steps to treat our tootsies from time to time. This foot mask contains extracts of papaya, lemon, apple, orange and chamomile, it’s like a fruit basket for your feet! They recommend you leave the booties on for 60 – 90 minutes and rinse. Over the following days, the calluses will peel away (part of my previously referenced horror story!). An odd kind of product, and the thought of wet feet kind of freak me out, but I’ll put it to use some evening!

Purederm Botanical Choice Exfoliating Foot Mask retails for €3.99, available from pharmacies nationwide.

5. Roger & Gallet Body Sorbet

As if this Chic Treat Club box couldn’t get any better! Love, love, love Roger & Gallet products, so I did let out a little yelp when I saw this. I already have  a small eau de toilette bottle of this fragrance, Bois d’Orange, and now I have the corresponding body lotion, yippee! I’ll be smelling like a spanish orange grove before you can say ‘Ola, cherry coca-cola’! The fragrance is quite strong with notes of basil, verbena, orange blossom, amber and cedar wood. However, I think it’s very distinctive and something a little different. This 50ml travel sized body lotion provides 24hr hydration and contains orange extract and aloe vera. It contains no parabens, no silicone and no colouring agents, so no nasties! Delighted with this.

Roger & Gallet Body Sorbet retails at €15.00 for 200ml, this 50ml travel size would cost around €3.75. Visit for stockists.

The total cost of the products in this months box comes to approx. €48.22. Bang for your subscription buck! Overall verdict, I am DELIGHTED with what I got in this months Chic Treat Club box. Lot’s of lovely goodies that I am really excited about. Chic Treat have done it again, you BEAUTIES!

Chic Treat Club have subscription packages to suit all budgets, their monthly, three-month or six month subscriptions could make a great Christmas present for a loved one! To sign up for a Chic Treat Club subscription, visit their website here!

Chic Treat Club Box, September 2014

Sorry I’m a bit behind with this post, it’s been a busy couple of weeks.
I was so impressed with my Chic Treat Club subscription, that I renewed it for another three months! It’s such a novelty to get a box of surprises delivered every month. Let’s have a look at the September box shall we?

This is a brand of lip balms that I’ve seen available in nearly every pharmacy! Balmi claims to moisturise lips while providing you with SPF15 and UV protection. ingredients include jojoba oil, vitamin e and shea butter, leaving you with super smooth and soft lips, ready for some autumn kissing! 🙂
It’s an interesting product in that the balm is conical in shape, which gives ease of application, so you can moisturise lips on the go! It is available in four flavours; coconut, raspberry, strawberry and mint. I got the strawberry Balmi in my Chic Treat Club box this month and it’s yummy! It glides on like a dream and feels very moisturising. Lip balm isn’t usually something I purchase regularly, mainly because it takes me ages to work through one little pot. However, I have noticed my lips becoming a bit dry over the past few weeks, as a result of the change in the weather. So this will certainly get some use, for sure!

Balmi retails for €5.95 and is available from McCabe’s, Sam McCauley and pharmacies nationwide.

Those of you familiar with Shellac polish, will have heard of the brand CND.  This months Chic Treat box included a small little bottle of their famous Solaroil. Solaroil is a conditioner designed to soften cuticles and strengthen nails. It includes, vitamin E, rice bran, jojoba oil and sweet almond oil (smells like christmas cake in a bottle!), leaving you with hydrated and moisturised nails and cuticles. THIS IS WHAT I NEED! My hands are so dry and as a result, I have really ragged cuticles. I am really bad at looking after my cuticles, I regularly get told off by nail technicians! This Solaroil is the business! Really good for cuticles and very moisturising without being overly oily. I just wish there had been a bigger bottle included in this months Chic Treat box.

Solaroil retails at €3,15 for 3.7ml, €8.45 for 7.3ml and €15.45 for 15ml. Available from leading nail salons.

Some Chic Treaters will have received the hand serum, and some will have received the hand gel. I received the Antibacterial Hand Gel. It’s a quick drying formula that claims to kill 99.9% of bacteria, with the clean  and fresh scent of cucumber and garden mint. I don’t have too much to say on this product, it didn’t particularly excite me, it was a bit of a dud product for me! I would nearly have preferred the hand serum, but it’s the luck of the draw. I’m sure it will come in handy to pop in my handbag or on my desk at work.

Cuticura antibacterial hand gel retails at €1.49 from pharmacies nationwide.

I recently discovered the brand Sleek and I was very excited to see not one, but TWO sleek products in this months Chic Treat box. The first is the Sleek Kajal Eyeliner in the shade ‘Odyssey’, a purple colour. I’m a big fan of black eyeliner, so was a little disappointed to see it was a purple shade. This kajal liner is BEAUTIFULLY packaged, it’s so cute and dinky. A real change from traditional liner tubes and pencils. The formula itself glides on so softly, in a beautiful deep purple colour, with a slight shimmer. I don’t think I will use this as an eyeliner, but I will use it as a creamy eye pencil to create a smokey eye look.Very pretty!

Sleek Kajal Eyeliner retails for €5.99 from selected Boots and McCabe’s pharmacies.

The second Sleek product in this month’s box was a Pout Paint lip stain. OOOOOH this is pret-ty!This cute little tube, provides an intense pop of colour that is suitable to wear on its own or to mix with another shade. As the packaging suggests, a little goes a LONG way with this product. I nearly fell off my seat when I tested it on the back of my hand, the shade (Milkshake), was a super bright Barbie-esque  shade of pink. It’s QUITE vibrant, it kind of knocked me for six! I don’t think I’d be going hell for leather with this, a tiny little drop patted on the lips gives a pretty pink pout. So this is going to last ages. A handy little one for your handbag or make up bag.Again, this applies beautifully and dries to a smooth, satin, stain finish, without stickiness. Really like this!

This Sleek Pout Paint costs €6.99 and was an exclusive product to Chic Treat clubbers. I feel special 🙂

Overall, the total cost of the contents in this month’s box tally’s at €23.57. Perhaps not as costly as previous boxes, but still more than your monthly subscription fee! Upon opening this months Chic Treat box, I’ll admit I was initially disappointed. I think it was more so the physical look of the treats, the packaging of many of the products were quite small, I had to dig beneath the crinkly packaging to retrieve all my treats. I think the antibacterial gel was the biggest disappointment for me, I didn’t feel it was very ‘chic’ nor much of a ‘treat’, yet as I said – it will get used at my office desk or somewhere. I hope next month’s box doesn’t include another nail/foot product. Two months in a row the box has included cuticle products, and before that –  two foot creams. I’m still working through them!

Chic Treat have announced that their October box will be their ‘charity box’. They will be going PINK for October and donating €2 from the sale of every Chic Treat box to The National Breast Cancer Research Institute. So if you were thinking of signing up, make sure to order in time for October’s box and you can help raise money for this wonderful cause!

REVIEW: Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet

These have been reviewed and blogged about a lot recently, so I’m jumping on the bandwagon because they are just SO GOOD! After saying in a previous post that I hadn’t bought anything by Bourjois in years….it appears that I can’t stop now!

Bourjois have come out with their new range of lipstick’s, Rouge Edition Velvet. They come in eight different shades (although I’ve only seen six shades available in any of the Boots stores I checked). From peachy corals, to hot pinks and luscious reds, these colours aren’t for the faint hearted! If you prefer a subtle gloss, nude lip, or the dreaded ‘concealer lip’ (FYI this is not a good look!)…..then jog on. However, if you are looking for a full pop of vivid colour with a matte finish and unbelievable staying power, then I would highly recommend these.

Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet

They look like a lip gloss, and kind of go on like one initially, but they set to a soft matte finish, that is non drying on the lips. A huge plus! I hate lipsticks that dry out my lips and they just end up looking rubbish after a few hours, with a horrible ring of colour around the outline of your lips. Bourjois boast ’24 hour hold’ on these lippies, a bold statement and a fairly ambitious claim. You know what though? I BELIEVE THEM! I tested this out recently, and after a glass of wine, dinner, a Bellini (but of course) and a few gin and tonic’s later, the lipstick was still on my lips. AMAZING staying power!

I bought two shades; Pink Pong (06) and Personne de Rouge! (01). Pink Pong is an incredible shade of Fuchsia. It’s a stunning colour and not something I would have worn previous to this. However, I was feeling brave on my night out and went for it. Personne de Rouge! is a classic rich red, elegant and classic. I feel like a 1940’s movie star when I wear this shade!

Top: Pink Pong    Bottom: Personne de Rouge!

For all my fellow ‘show ponies’ out there, I would highly recommend these for the purpose of the stage. As you know, you won’t ever be allowed on stage without a red lip!! They would most certainly last for a whole performance and probably the after show party too! 🙂

The Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet lipsticks are currently on offer at Boots stores for €10.99. So put down the boring clear lip gloss, live a little and be brave. Try a bold colour, wear it with confidence and see how it makes you feel. Powerful, feminine and ready to take on the world!

‘Heels and red lipstick will put the fear of god into people’ – Dita Von Teese

While rummaging through the land of Narnia that exists within my handbag, among the keys, the coins and the endless trail of receipts, I made quite a startling discovery!

I had not one, not two, not three or four…but NINE lipstick or lipgloss products in my handbag. NINE! A whole range of colours, textures and finishes to suit any mood or outfit. I think I’m covered for every eventuality here!

So what about you? I’d love to hear what’s in your handbag! Am I the only one with this obsesssion!? 🙂
