REVIEW: L’OREAL COLOUR RICHE EXCLUSIVE REDS ‘BLAKE’S PURE RED’

Anyone else have a girl crush on Blake Lively? I just love everything about that gal’s look. The glamorous gowns, the beachy waves, the pared back make up looks; her look is always on point! She’s most certainly my girl crush! Ashamed to say I’ve only ever seen one episode of Gossip Girl, I might make it my ‘thing’ to watch this autumn/winter.

Blake's Red2

I recently purchased one of the L’oreal Colour Riche lipsticks from their Exclusive Reds range. L’oreal have teamed up with a bevvy of high-flying female beauties such as Blake Lively, Julianne Moore and Eva Longoria, to come up with a range of red toned lip shades to suit all complexions. Me being obsessed with Blake Lively didn’t even bother investigating which was suited to my colouring, I just knew I wanted the shade Blake’s Pure Red. In hopes it magically transformed me into the Hollywood starlet (it didn’t by the way). It is however, very nearly THE perfect shade of red in my opinion!

Blake's Red

These lipsticks are “Enriched with velvet spheres, pure pigments and jojoba oils, lips feel more hydrated after applying”. I can’t say I found this lipstick particularly hydrating, but I did find the formula a little drying after about five hours of wear. I absolutely HATE lip products that go flakey and crumbly, there is just no point in them at all! To minimize any of that, it’s vital that lips are in tip-top condition prior to applying a bold colour lipstick. A lip exfoliator and good lip balm are your friends, particularly now that Autumn is in full swing and Winter is on the horizon.

To apply this lipstick, I first added a light layer of lip balm. I then lined my lips, applied and blotted. Applied another coat of lippy and blotted once more. One great thing about this L’oreal lipstick is that it has really excellent lasting power in that it almost leaves a stain. The BEST thing about this though, is simply the colour; the beautiful, classic rouge shade that screams ‘HOLLYWOOD GLAMOUR’.

These are priced at around €10.49 from Boots and all L’oreal stockists, with a shade to suit every skin tone. Well worth the price for the perfect shade of red for your make-up kit!

REVIEW: Longing for Long Lasting Foundation

Now that Autumn has arrived and the silly season is on the horizon, you may find your social calendar getting busier and busier! With after work drinks, festive parties and Halloween hoopla’s, most of us look for a foundation to take you from desk to dinner table and on to the dance floor!

I’ve been a big fan of Estee Lauder’s Double Wear for many years, after my fabulous sister suggested it as a great long-lasting foundation. It is indeed, a great full coverage, long-lasting foundation, perfect for a long day or a big night out. Unfortunately my budget doesn’t always stretch to this brand once I run out, so I have been on the hunt for some great long-lasting budget foundations. I have two here that do the job very well and won’t break the bank!

RIMMEL LOREAL FOUNDATION

Rimmel Lasting Finish 25 Hour Foundation (Available in 7 shades, €8.85)

I would happily award Rimmel’s Wake Me Up foundation, as the best budget brand foundation I have used, so I expected great things from this Lasting Finish 25 Hour Foundation. This is a skin perfecting, full coverage foundation. It contains comfort serum for all day comfort on the skin that won’t feel cakey. It claims to be heat proof, sweat proof and transfer proof. It also claims to stay put for up to 25 hours!

My verdict: SUPER! This is a fantastic foundation! It’s quite thick to apply, meaning you can use as much or as little as you see fit. A little goes a long way with this product. It feels a little sticky at first, but once it settles on to the skin, you are left with a smooth, full coverage result. It also contains SPF20 for added protection.

I wasn’t going to dare test it’s longevity for 25 hours! However, for this to get me from 8am to 7pm, and still look pretty good, I am very happy with that! All this and under a tenner, another thumbs up for Rimmel.

If you are looking for long lasting coverage, but want to look like you are wearing no make up, Rimmel also offer Lasting Finish Nude Foundation. My pal Karen over at The Mix and Match reviewed it and gives it her seal of approval, you can read her review here.

L’Oreal Infallible 24hr Stayfresh Foundation  (Available in 8 shades, €14.99)

Another great long-lasting foundation, this time from L’Oreal. This foundation has been around for a while, but was recently re-branded and relaunched into the beauty market. This foundation claims to stay fresh for 24 hours and will fight a ‘make up meltdown’, sure haven’t we all had one of those! You’ve a busy day and you end up with a face like a melted candle!

This Infallible foundation promises a 24hr just applied finish and a 24hr flawless complexion. It wont transfer, gives an even complexion and hides blemishes. It also claims that it won’t give any visible shine, won’t dry out and will leave you with a healthy ‘no mask’ complexion. PHEW! Talk about ‘promises, promises’!

My verdict: Another GREAT long-lasting foundation! There is no SPF in this one, so it’s a good pick if you plan on getting photographed! It’s not as thick in consistency as the Rimmel one, but gives excellent coverage.

Again, ain’t no way I could test this for 24 hours, and where would you be going that you needed make up on your face for that long?! By the time 7pm came around my foundation appeared to be still in tact, although I did find my skin looked quite shiny! A quick powder down and I could easily have been out the door for the night, without having to embark on the process of re-doing my whole face. At €14.99, it’s a little pricier than Rimmel’s offering, but it still won’t break the bank!

Have you any suggestions on how to ensure your make up last’s throughout the day? I would love to hear your tips!
