Recently I cackled my cockles off watching the gals over at Lovely Girlie Bits vlogging about what they recommend purchasing with those No7 vouchers you get in Boots every other week. Fair play to Boots and No7, those vouchers come up so regularly, if you were an avid No7 user you would be set for a lifetime of affordable beauty treats. I am one of the million people who are guilty of throwing the vouchers into my bag and forgetting about them, or sometimes just not knowing why to redeem them against! For anyone not familiar, the infamous N07 vouchers come in two parts, €6.50 off No7 skin care and €4 off No7 make-up.

After watching Joanne and Karen over at Lovely Girlie Bits and a bit of product research, I went on the hunt for the No7 Beautiful Skin Overnight Radiance Boost. Suitable for all skin types (even sensitive skin, due to the hypoallergenic formula), this product claims to have you waking up to brighter and more radiant skin. It’s designed to boost the power of your usual beauty sleep and acts as a powerful pick-me-up for your skin. I’ve had a busy and tiresome few weeks and I felt my skin bearing the brunt of it. I was getting breakouts that I wouldn’t usually experience and my skin was looking dull and lacklustre. Time for reinforcements! It contains a blend of multivitamins, minerals, natural vitamin C and caffeine that promise to hydrate, energize, mildly exfoliate and renew the skin surface, hence boosting the natural radiance of your beautiful face! 🙂

It comes in a 30ml plastic bottle with a pump, that boasts the simple and classic No7 packaging that the brand is known for. The product itself once dispensed is a thin, white liquid that turns clear once massaged into skin. It is silky and has that lovely clean cosmetic smell that you would associate with other No7 products. A non greasy formula that is absorbed beautifully and super quickly into skin, this is a dream to use on freshly cleansed skin at the end of a long day!

So the big question is, did it deliver? I can’t say I woke up with overwhelmingly radiant skin. Between panda eyes, pillow marks on my face and hair that resembles a nest, it’s a regular occurence that I look like ‘the wild woman from Borneo’ first thing in the morning and this product ain’t promising to work miracles! That said, I do find my skin looks more even and plump upon waking after using this product. Where I do see the radiance is during the day. After washing my face and applying make-up, I’m pretty happy with how my skin is looking after using this product recently. I would certainly recommend it as a lovely skin boost and would be happy to re-purchase.

The No7 Beautiful Skin Overnight Radiance Boost will set you back €19.50 usually, with my €6.50 voucher I only forked out €13.00 for this lovely skin treat. Not sure I’d pay the regular price for it, but the vouchers come up so regularly, I would expect that I would rarely have to! It’s available from Boots online and in store. So next time you find yourself with a No7 voucher or just fancy a little skin treat, this is definitely one to try!

While the thought of walking into TKMaxx can break some people out in hives, I don’t mind it so much. I noticed over the past year or so it has become a treasure trove for a beauty junkie like myself, with some amazing hair, make up and skin care products on offer and at excellent prices!

Last week was particularly special in terms of beauty bargains, when I picked up four little gems that any beauty lover would appreciate! Continue reading

For a lady that is so dedicated to skin care, I tend to concentrate mostly on my face and neglect the rest of my body. I have a friend who applies body moisturiser every day after her shower. And all power to her, she will have skin like a goddess when she is 80, while the rest of us look like 100 year old leather handbags. The odd time, I’ll lash on the body butter or body oil after an evening shower or bath, but if I’m quite honest, it’s just something I do on occassion. I’m admittedly, just too lazy!

Now that winter has well and truly passed, spring has sprung and summer is on the horizon, now’s the time to prepare our skin for summer tops, shorts, skirts and dresses. The new In-Shower Q10 Firming Body Moisturiser  from Nivea is the ultimate ‘lazy girls’ product for keeping dry and flaky scales at bay!

Coenzyme Q10 is one of skin’s own natural substances that decreases during the aging process. The decreased Q10 leaves skin suceceptible to stress and damage, which eventually leads to sagging skin. Nivea’s O10 range helps replenish Q10 levels, supporting surface skin cell renewal and improving the appearance of skin. Sounds magic! I’m tempted to eat these Nivea products, just to save my bodies Q10!! *I don’t recommend you ingest any of these products*

This In-Shower body moisturiser is lightly fragranced with that lovely clean and soapy smell that is a trademark scent of Nivea products. A personal favourite feature that I love about Nivea! It contains refreshing menthol and Q10 massage beads that literally melt into the skin when applied under hot water, making skin feel tightened with a slight cooling sensation.

The best way to describe how to use this product is like the process of how most people wash their hair, you shampoo your hair and then condition it.  This is a similar concept. You cleanse your body first with your preferred shower cream/gel, (I personally like to use Nivea’s Creme Soft Shower Cream) and rinse. You then ‘condition’ your body with the In-Shower Body Moisturiser. Apply it all over like a regular body moisturiser and rinse off. Once you dry off, you will instantly feel the super supple softeness of your skin, just like you would using a traditional body moisturiser. Simply dry off, get dressed and you are ready to go out the door! No faffing about with lotions and potions and waiting for them to dry before you get dressed. What’s not to love about that!?

I really love the In-Shower Moisturisers from Nivea, I think they are super products and something I have bought several times, they do a fantastic job of moistursing my skin. I can’t honestly say I noticed a huge difference in the firmness of my skin with this particular version, but maybe this would be more noticeable in mature skin. There are five products within the Nivea In-Shower moisturiser range, all with a selection of nourishing and pampering ingredients for a range of skin types. I love them so much that I went out an repurchased this product today! The In-Shower Q10 Firming body moisturiser is the newest addition to the In-Shower range, priced at RRP€7.38 and available from leading supermarkets and pharmacies nationwide.

Nivea is most certainly a ‘one stop shop’ for all your skincare and sun protection needs this summer!

*Thank you to Breena at Drury PN for allowing me to trial this product.

What’s not to love about Nivea? I’ve always been a fan! From skin care, to shower cream, to SPF protection and lip balms. Nivea do a huge range of high quality products, widely available and always at affordable prices. The Nivea Q10 range is an ‘anti aging powerhouse’, complimenting the beauty of women for over 15 years and includes a plethora of products designed to combat anti aging. The Q10 range includes a selection of day creams (all with an SPF of 15 or higher), a night cream, eye cream and a CC cream tinted moisturiser.

For the past few weeks, I have been using the Q10 plus day cream, night cream, eye cream and the newest addition to the Q10 range;  Q10plus Anti-Wrinkle Serum Pearls.

NIVEA Q10 Energising Day Cream €11.80

This Q10 energising day cream is a fantastic everyday moisturiser. It is light, absorbs quickly and has that lovely fresh scent that I love about Nivea. It’s a great base for make up and includes SPF15. After a recent holiday, my skin was dry and flaky as a result of the sun, but since using this range from Nivea, it’s sorted it right out!

NIVEA Anti Wrinkle Q10 Plus Night Cream €12.59

This rich night cream works wonders on the skin overnight! A little goes a long way and it does a super job of moisturising skin. It’s been a while since I’ve used a night cream, I find them a bit too heavy and rich on the skin. I usually use The Body Shop Vitamin E Serum in Oil as it feels fresh and light. Thankfully this Q10 Plus Night Cream didn’t leave me waking up with that horrible oily feeling on my skin. Skin was plump, radiant and looked like I had slept 100 years!

NIVEA Anti Wrinkle Q10 Plus Eye Cream €11.79

I’ve been using an eye cream since my early twenties and boy am I glad! Apart from dreaded dark circles and a few tell-tale laughter lines, my peepers ain’t looking too shabby for a gal of 30! The formula of this eye cream supports the skin’s own Q10 and creatine, fighting wrinkles and helps to reduce the appearance of any new lines. Once again, light, refreshing on tired eyes and absorbs easily. Another gorgeous Q10 product.

NIVEA Q10plus Anti-Wrinkle Serum €14.99

The newest addition to the Q10plus range are the Anti-Wrinkle Serum Pearls. They include Nivea’s highest-ever dose of coenzyme Q10 in a patented suspended pearls technology.  This ground breaking formula and the unique dispenser has been clinically proven to visibly reduce the appearance of wrinkles.  It also claims to soften and smooth skin, leaving you with a refined and youthful complexion. Nivea experts recommend using the Serum Pearls twice a day, morning and night after cleansing. It can also be used as a very effective make up base.

When the special pump dispenser is pressed, the Q10 enriched pearls dissolve and blend with the hydro gel. Once massaged into the skin, it feels soft, silky and fresh.GORGEOUS! It leaves the skin with a beautiful radiant glow, without that annoying glitter-ball effect residue. Used in conjunction with the rest of the Nivea Q10 Plus range, your skin will be in tip-top condition, ready to combat aging 24/7.

I am really impressed with the Q10 range from Nivea! I have been using all of the above products for the past few weeks and my skin is amazing condition! As I said, a little goes a long way with these Nivea products and the prices are super affordable. What’s not to love? Will definitely continue making my way through these products.

*Huge thanks to Breena Cooper at Drury PN for allowing me to trial these products.

EVENT: Declaré Skin Care

Recently I headed along to a media and press day for Declaré skin care, which was held within the beautiful setting of the Beauty Bootcamp headquarters within Georgian Dublin. I had never heard of the Declaré  brand before this event and it’s safe to say, I was very impressed with what they had to offer!

Declaré is a Swiss brand specifically designed for sensitive skin. This international brand has been in existence since 1978 and is available in forty-five countries throughout the world. They offer a skin care solution that is suitable for a range of skin type’s and ages. Some of their range include solutions such as Allergy Balance, Age Control, Hydro Balance and Pro Youthing. There really is something for everyone within the Declaré range!

Declare Skincare

I was delighted (and fascinated!) to meet Barbara Troll, Managing Director of Declaré Switzerland. She is also the daughter of the founder of Declaré Switzerland, I was instantly envious of the family she grew up in! Along with Barbara, we met Declaré’s International Training Manager, Elke. Both ladies were so informative and passionate about the brand, it was hard not to love it from the get go. Also, if their complexions were anything to go by, then sign me up for a lifetime supply of Declaré! Beautiful, elegant and articulate women, who really knew their stuff.

Elke was on hand to do an individual skin analysis on each of us and the results were fascinating. I’m having a bit of a bad skin week for some reason and I was nervous when Elke place a small camera against my face and took close up images of my skin’s surface. The images of my visage appeared on-screen and I was pleasantly surprised. Elke said my skin was very even, I had a few fine lines around my eyes – she called them ‘sunshine lines’, which instantly made me smile! Life is too short to be worrying about fine lines! 🙂 I had a small bit of dryness around my chin area, but all in all – very even and no pigmentation. Woohoo! Elke then recommended some Declaré products that would work perfectly for my skin type. The skin analysis activity was a really great addition to the event and I found it really interesting.

So on to the products! There are 105 products in total within the Declaré family.  I was particularly enamored with their Caviar Perfection Luxury Anti Wrinkle Body Butter. It is beautifully packaged in casing that would look stunning on any dressing table. The body butter itself is rich and luxurious and leaves skin feeling FABULOUS. Elke described the Caviar Perfection range as ‘the silky negligee for your whole body‘! Says it all really!

Another product that caught my eye was the Hydro Boost Duo Care Fluid, from the Hydrobalance range.  This duo phase fluid contains a cocktail of ocean extracts, including algae and seaweed, giving you 24hr moisture! This light and refreshing formula absorbs quickly and leaves your skin feeling smooth, clean and relaxed. The duo phase of the skin care fluid and concentrate gives packs a two for one punch and adds novelty to the product! Really, really nice, I loved this. The Hydro Boost Duo Care Fluid will be launching soon! They also do a fantastic range of Men’s skin care, definitely one to check out for Valentine’s Day gift idea’s!

I was absolutely chuffed with a goody bag of these gorgeous products to take home. It included the Vital Balance Power Duo Oil + Serum; a similar product to the Hydro Boost Duo Care Fluid as above, GORGEOUS! Also included was a Stress Balance Anti-Irritation Serum, which reduces signs of stress, fatigue and stress, it’s like a nights sleep for your face and absorbs instantly! A Pro Youthing Youth Supreme moisturising cream, for youthful, fresh and soft skin. And finally (yet probably the most relevant for me at the moment, as I’m off on holidays next week!) a SPF25 Anti Wrinkle Sun Spray and an SPF30 Anti Wrinkle Sun Cream tube, that doubles as SPF protection for your lips and face/body.

Declare Skincare2

An absolutely gorgeous event for a luxurious and reputable brand, I really enjoyed it. If you would like to learn more about the products, please visit the Declaré website. Declaré is making waves in Ireland and is stocked in selected pharmacies. Keep an eye on the Declaré Ireland Facebook page for news of upcoming stockists near you!

Thanks to Tara at Gilleece Communications, Karen Dempsey and all the team for a very enjoyable and informative experience!

Laying the foundations: My skin care routine

When it comes to skin care, you need to lay the perfect foundation and build around it. It’s never too late to start a regular routine and your skin will thank you for it!

Nature gives you the skin you have at twenty, it is up to you to merit the face you have at fifty. – Coco Chanel

I don’t take my skin for granted and consider myself very lucky to have never had any major skin woes. Rest assured, my skin is far from perfect! I get the odd pimple, I have annoying little blackheads dotted on my nose, fine lines, dark circles that would rival a panda and sometimes an oily T-Zone. However, I have always made my skin a priority, it’s part of my daily routine, I don’t give it a second thought. To me, it’s as routine as brushing my teeth!

  • I cleanse my face with my Clarisonic every morning using Normaderm Purifying Cleansing Gel by Vichy. This cleansing gel is perfect for everyday cleansing. It is soap free and is particularly good for anyone with blemish prone or oily skin. No fluff and no frills, does what it says. A grand oul’ cleanser!
  • I follow this by sweeping Liz Earle’s Instant Boost Skin Tonic on a cotton pad over my face. This toner smells divine and will leave your skin feeling clean and bright, ready to take on the day!
  • My moisturiser of choice is Hydra Beauty Gel Creme
by Chanel, which is a beautiful light gel cream. It absorbs into the skin quickly and leaves your face feeling fresh, clean and moisturised, really great product! I then apply Una Brennan Vitamin C eye cream to brighten up my panda peepers!
  • A friend recently suggested Clarins Beauty Flash Balm as a primer and I really like. I use a small pea sized amount of this, and pat it over a clean face. It smells gorgeous and it instantly tightens and brightens my skin. It just feels lovely and cooling, leaving with a lovely smooth base for my foundation! LOVE IT!

  • I begin my evening routine firstly my removing my eye make up. I use Chanel’s Demaquillant Yeux Intense Bi-phase eye make up remover. The bi-phase elements make this an excellent eye makeup remover! It’s really gentle too and does a great job at removing my eyeliner and mascara at the end of the day.
  • To remove make up, I massage Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser by Liz Earle onto dry skin. Wiping of with a wet/warm muslin cloth. This is a stunning cleanser! And like it’s sister toner, it smells amazing. I’m not sure I prefer it over the Una Brennan’s Vitamin C Cleansing Oil, but it’s excellent for removing a full face of make up and leaving your skin feeling really clean.
  • After completing my evening cleanse, I do another sweep of the Liz Earle Instant Boost Skin Tonic as above.
  • FINALLY……I finish off  by patting my face with two drops of Vitamin E Serum in Oil from the Body Shop. I only bought this recently and I love it! It’s replaced my previous heavy night cream. Another gorgeous smelling product, that gives a clean, relaxing, powder like scent. This product claims to work while you sleep leaving you feeling refreshed and looking like you’ve had 8 hours sleep. It’s a cracking product and new favorite thing!skincare

So now, I know this all seems like a helluva lot of products and a helluva lot of time, but as I mentioned, skin care is something that I really take pride in and something I really enjoy. You can always rely on me to take off my make up at the end of a long day or a wild night, there’s no better feeling – YES, I do remove my make up after a night on tiles! No matter how many G&T’s I’ve had, I don’t think I have ever gone to bed without doing so and that ain’t no lie!

My regime is admittedly quite a mish-mash of brands and products. I’m fortunate that I don’t have very sensitive skin, so I can get away with mixing and matching products.  I’m no dermatologist and I’m certainly not claiming to be an expert,  these are just the tools and products that work for me personally and my skin type.

What are your go-to skin care products? Would love to hear your thoughts and recommendations!

Saving face – REVIEW: Clarisonic Mia2

Mirror mirror on the wall, who’s the fairest of them all?

Uh….not you anyway, your skin is in bits, have you tried the Clarisonic?

I spotted the Clarisonic in a friends bathroom earlier this year and I curiously asked what it was. After my friend gave me the low down and having admired her beautifully clear milky skin, I decided I had to have it!

Behold...Clarisonic Mia 2!

Behold…Clarisonic Mia 2!

What is a Clarisonic?

The Clarisonic is a skin care tool that uses sonic wave technology to gently remove excess dirt and impurities that traditional cleaning methods leave behind. It claims to cleanse  skin six times more effectively than using your own paws to clean your visage! In short, it’s like an electric toothbrush for your face! The Clarisonic Mia 2 has two speeds, is suitable for use in the shower and the brush head’s are replaceable.

How does it work?

Simply wet the brush head while in the shower, apply your facial cleanser/wash of choice to the brush and fire Mia up! You start on the forehead area (20 seconds) gently polishing in circular motions. The Clarisonic will then pulse to indicate you to move on to your nose and chin area (20 seconds). The pulse indicator will then vibrate for you to move to the cheek area (10 seconds), and again for the opposite cheek (10 seconds). In total, the Clarisonic process takes just 60 seconds! A small daily price to pay to the beauty gods.

Splurge or steal?

A definite splurge! The Clarisonic Mia 2 costs €149.00 . It’s  available in a wide range of colours, a more affordable one speed version and more expensive advanced models suitable for face and body.  The replaceable brush head’s retail from between €25 – €40, depending on what one you get.

What do you get for your money?

My Clarisonic Mia 2 came with a handy travel carry case, a mains charger and a small tube of Clarisonic brand cleansing cream.

What’s the verdict?

I’ve been using my Clarisonic for about three months now, and I’m still not 110% decided  if I love it or loathe it. I LIKE IT. I consider myself very lucky to have always had fairly decent skin, so I’d no major skin hang up’s to rectify. Since using the Clarisonic my skin does look a lot better, I’ll admit that. My moisturiser set’s better, my make up apply’s nicely and my skin looks more radiant. My skin does tend to look a bit porous as the day goes on, but I can’t say that’s down to the Clarisonic, perhaps more so the products I’m using.

One thing I will say is that ever since I started using the Clarisonic, I have developed milia on my face. Milia are small white bumps that are caused by dead skin cells getting trapped underneath the skin. Unfortunately there’s no way to get rid of these annoying little critters. They pretty much have to just wheedle away by themselves!

This may be the longest I have taken before I make up my mind about a product. Admittedly, I can be quick to use something two or three times and then decide it’s fate; in the bin or a firm staple in my beauty stash! However, given the nature of the Clarisonic Mia 2 (not to mention what I paid for it!) It’s one of those products I needed to take some time to get to grips with.

To sum up, it’s taken me a while to get used to the Clarisonic. I was using it everyday, then switched to using it every other day/about 3 times a week. Clarisonic suggest you use it once a day, everyday, to see any real results. So that’s what I’m doing now and so far so good!

Such a lady.....curves in all the right places!

Such a lady…..curves in all the right places!

The Clarisonic Mia 2 is €149.00 and is available from Debenhams and Brown Thomas stores. There are also plenty of online retailers who stock the same.

Have you tried the Clarisonic?
